AREA and PERIMETER

There's always improvements to be made

Dear all,

I have wrapped up on the topics covered in the P3 syllabus for Mathematics. It has been a tough and long year with several new topics being taught. It is time to start revision. I realized that many of you still have difficulty with writing the correct units of measurement for area and perimeter.

Remember that for area, the formula is LENGTH x BREADTH for (rectangles) and SIDE X SIDE (for squares). The correct units of measurement is cm² or m². Please do not forget.

For Perimeter, the formula is to add the sides AROUND the figure. The units of measurement is cm or m.

Here are some good websites for you to take a look:
http://www.coolmath.com/reference/rectangles.html
http://www.mathplayground.com/area_perimeter.html

I will be doing intensive revision with everyone next week and drill and practice with everyone on the basic formulas and concepts of the topics covered.

Dear parents,

You can start with revision with your kids, especially on topics covered in term 4 such as Fractions and Time. For fractions, do concentrate on adding and subtracting unlike fractions with different denominators. Some of the students have forgotten about the correct concept of answering such questions. For timeline, the important skill is to be able to draw the timeline. Do hone their skills.

Dear all,

On another side note, do remember that PSLE is ongoing until next Wed. We practise self discipline and graciousness for our big brothers and sisters by keeping our noise level especially low during lesson times. Our classroom is located near their classrooms and any noise made will affect them. Kindness begets kindness. There will come a time when you will be taking your PSLE too.

rule #1 - We are a family! We think for others with our actions.

Week 3 is coming to an end. Very soon, we will be doing filing and we will be getting your books home for your parents to check, take a look and sign. :)

Study hard from now on! Remember to revise and practise your maths!

Sincerely,
Mr Nelson Ong.

It's term 4 week 3!

Dear all,

It's been a while since I have updated. We are about to finish up on Area and Perimeter to move on to revision for SA2. The schedule of the papers have been out. We are down to 3 more weeks and it is about time for you to start revising for every paper.

For maths, there are a few totally new topics that were not taught and build upon in primary 2. Thus, it is important to understand the concepts, take note of the units of measurement and to constantly practise the questions.

Especially for topics like fractions, area and perimeter, time and parallel and perpendicular lines.

It is going to be intensive. It is going to be rushing! Hang in there. Do your best and strive for excellency.

I am in this together with each and every one of you. I will do my best to help you to strive for the best results possible. Work hard!

Sincerely,
Mr Nelson Ong

Term 4 begins

Dear all,

It's the 2nd day of term 4. Back to school once again. Some dread it, some look forward to it. No matter what, it is time for us to get serious and work together to complete this last step of your primary 3 life.

Class photos are out. I will be pasting them on the notice board. Please take a look and indicate which photo you would like to purchase on your little envelope given to you. You will then pass it to the vendors as with the dates stipulated on the envelope, together with your money.

Supplementary lessons are on for this week.

There is no school on friday so please do not turn up in school. Take this time to revise and rest up.

Have a good term ahead everyone!

Sincerely,
Mr Nelson Ong.

HAPPY SEPT HOLS

Dear all,

Thank you for your presents and well wishes. I appreciate them all! It's my very first teachers' day and I can't be any happier than to spend it with 3G8. It has been 10 weeks of getting to know each and every one and to also teach you guys Mathematics.

This 10 weeks has just flew by so quickly. My greatest teachers' day wish is for everyone to score a band 1 for their end of the year SA2 results. Continue to work hard. Term 4 is another short term. I am looking forward to teaching the class again but also dreading it as I know that once the term ends, that will mean that I will miss you guys! You all have been a wonderful lot!

Rest well and do remember to let your parents acknowledge, look through and sign your maths WB 3B part 2. Remember to bring it on the first day when school reopens. As you go for your well deserved break, I will be busy trying to plan for your next term topics.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS 3G8!

Yours Sincerely,
Mr Nelson Ong
